New Kit Saves Shop Owner 8 Hours Repairing Broken Exhaust Manifold Bolts On Dodge 3.6L Engine

BAD NEWS…AS SHOP OWNER KEITH VAN METER BEGAN THE JOB OF REPLACING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON A DODGE PROMASTER 3.6L ENGINE, HE DISCOVERED THAT HE HAD TO DEAL WITH BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS AS WELL.
Once he realized an Easy Out Tool would not get the job done and free-hand drilling was out of the question, he contacted ProMAXX Tool to find a solution. Lucky for him the company had a ProPlate in development. Since he already owes and uses several ProMAXX Tool Kits, Van Meter knew if they had one that worked on Dodge 3.6L engines, it would save him time and make him more productive.
ProMAXX Tool’s latest innovation allows technicians to quickly make an on-the-vehicle exhaust manifold repair (EMR) for Dodge/Jeep 3.6L V6 engines from 2011 to 2020. The kit comes with all necessary equipment including premium ProDrill Gold bit tooling, a tap, bushings, and fasteners.
DON’T DRILL OFF CENTER

“I was really in a bind,” said Van Meter, an experienced mechanic who opened his own shop more than 23 years ago. “Without a guide plate, I’d either risk drilling off center or I’d have to pull the entire cylinder head.” 

That is when he spoke with ProMAXX Tool Specialist Kelly Bails. “Since we already had the tool in development, it needed a real-world field test,” she said. “I was able to quickly get Keith the prototype because my job is to always take care of the customer.”

NEW KIT SAVES SHOP EIGHT HOURS OF WORK

Once the kit arrived, Van Meter was able to use its precision-made ProPlate as a guide to easily drill out and remove all broken bolts. “If I had to pull the cylinder head it would have taken 10 to 15 hours,” he said. “But, thanks to the 3.6L EMR Kit, I got the entire job done in two. That’s a savings of more than eight hours of work!”

Van Meter credits much of the success to the precision of ProMAXX Tool’s kits and the company’s ProDrill Gold Tooling. Each bit is machined turned right here in the USA. ProDrill Gold Tooling easily goes through Stainless Steel and extremely hard material including Boron, Ultra-Strength, and even Titanium. “I’ve tried the others, but now I always use ProMAXX bits because they just cut better than the rest,” said Van Meter. “I have an entire section of my toolbox dedicated to just ProMAXX bits.

Because the vehicle was part of a larger fleet that Van Meter’s shop services, the cost savings made his customer very happy and demonstrated the added value his shop provides.

Working out of New Jersey, Van Meter believes that harsh climate conditions and the road salt and brine that come with them help eat away at the metal typically used in manifold bolts. “I’ve been using ProMAXX Tools to remove broken bolts for years,” he said. “Welding on nuts doesn’t always work, but drilling does. When I come across a busted bolt, I don’t even try to weld, I go right to my ProMAXX Tool kits.”
