Technician Uses Versatile Powerpull Oil Seal and Tube Extractor To Easily Pull Glow Plugs And More

PowerPull Oil Seal and Tub Extractors

The PowerPull Oil Seal and Tub Extractors are the perfect tools for removing glow plug seals, plastic dip sticks, and more. With these helpful tools, mechanics and technicians can easily service vehicles without struggling to remove the engine components. Read more to learn how a Ford master technician used the ProMAXX Oil Seal Pullers to get the job done without any hassle.

SEE HOW FORD MASTER TECH BRIAN DULL REPURPOSED THE PROMAXX TOOL OIL SEAL PULLER (HORNET) TO SOLVE ANOTHER COMMON PROBLEM…

“The glow plug terminal O-ring harness becomes hardened on the engine over time, making it really tough to remove,” Dull said. “Faced with this problem, I remembered the shop had a ProMAXX Tool PowerPull™ originally purchased to remove oil seals. I picked it up and gave it a shot at the glow plug terminal on a Power Stroke 6.0L.”

The PowerPull™ line is based on a hardened, machine-tooled slide hammer and can be used with three rods of varying lengths: 6-inch, 11-inch and 18-inch versions. This combination is then coupled with adapters that attach to the end of the rod. Depending on the type of adapter, vehicle technicians can use PowerPull™ to remove fuel injectors, pull plastic dipstick tubes, pop oil seals and more.

A difficult engine service made easy

Truck Shop Master Service Tech, Brian Dull, got the idea to use the ProMAXX Tool PowerPull for removing a stubborn glow plug terminal harness. He used the powerful tool on the Ford 6.0L Power Stroke 8-cylinder diesel engine he was working on.

POWERPULL OIL SEAL EXTRACTOR …NOW A GLOW PLUG PULLER!

The versatility of the ProMAXX PowerPull line is an understatement. The tool features adapters for all the above and more.

The ProMAXX® PowerPull Oil Seal Puller is equipped with a machine-hardened steel lift kit made right here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Oil Seal Adapter, which uses a standard drywall screw and includes a set screw for easy screw replacement. It can be attached to any of the slide hammer rod lengths of 6 inches, 11 inches, and 18 inches.

PowerPull™ slide hammer kits can also be combined with a number of products from ProMAXX® including, the Hornet Oil Seal Extractor Adapter, the Dipstick Tube Extractor, and a growing line of Fuel Injector Pullers.

The Oil Seal Extractor allows for repeated uses. The Hornet tool pulls oil seals, broken plastic dipstick handles and a multitude of other gaskets in seconds.

As a Ford-Certified Master Technician working at Apple Ford in Columbia, Maryland, Dull sees his fair share of hardened gasket rings. “Initially, I ordered the PowerPull™ because I needed it for a fuel injector job,” he said.

“But, when I came across the hardened O-ring on the 6.0L Power Stroke diesel engine, the glow plug harness was brittle and the tabs were broken. What typically happens is the tab breaks where the OEM tool goes, and the tool has nowhere to grab. That's where the Hornet came in.”

Dull realized the same PowerPull™ tool he used to remove fuel injectors could be turned to another purpose: adding adapters to existing instruments helps leverage his shop’s tool investment dollars.

“Because of the tight space constrictions, the shorter 6-inch slide hammer was ideal,” he said. “I also like that the adapter holds the screw in tight and does not loosen which allows me to pull the glow plug right out.”

Dull recommends the ProMAXX Tool PowerPull™ system to other shops because of its durability and versatility. With a PowerPull™ slide hammer and various length rods in their toolbox, technicians can pick from a wide selection of adapters to complete a multitude of repairs. This is a true tool of versatility.
